Locally-owned supermarket Spinneys today launches a meal kit delivery concept under its SpinneysFOOD label. The new service for UAE customers aims to support the growing demand for convenient and nutritious home cooking options.
The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted a shift from eating out to cooking at home as consumers seek healthier, safe and convenient food options. With this trend expected to continue post pandemic, the new SpinneysFOOD meal kits bring to customers a convenient way to shop and cook, with the added safety of pre-packaged ingredients.
The SpinneysFOOD meal kits have been developed by passionate local chefs celebrating firm family favourites, with a focus on fresh ingredients and easy step-by-step cooking instructions. Every dish aims to inspire customers to be a little more adventurous with their cooking and encourages a healthy way of living.
Paul Crawford, Category Manager at Spinneys says: “Since COVID-19, we’ve seen a huge increase in home-cooking as a result of lockdown constraints – more people are preparing fresh food in the comfort of their own kitchen. The pandemic has changed the way our customers plan their meals, so we hope that this new offering gives people the flexibility to shop conveniently and create healthy, delicious meals in a similar fashion to scratch cooking.”
The kits will launch both in store and online with four recipes, and will be added to every fortnight. Customers can expect a mix of meat, fish and vegetarian options serving up to two people per SpinneysFOOD meal kit. The first batch of recipes include a Mushroom & Butternut Risotto, Spaghetti & Meatballs, Roasted Salmon & Root Vegetables with a crème fraiche dip and a Thai Prawn Curry.
All SpinneysFOOD products are produced or sourced with complete traceability from the supermarket’s partners who share their values on quality and sustainability – and maintain the highest food safety standards. Committed to the health and wellbeing of its customers and the environment, the company’s mantra ‘Eat Well, Live Well’ is reflected in its product offering and the implementation of sustainability practices.
With growing demand from conscious consumers for supermarkets to provide a broader variety of food products to cater to specific preferences, from natural ingredients to organic and free-from products, Spinneys continues to expand its offering to include more innovative products that promote sustainable, healthy eating.
The next phase for Spinneys will be to introduce a subscription-service on Spinneys.com once all recipes have been introduced to the range. Each meal kit is priced at 60 AED or 50 AED depending on the recipe and are available via Spinneys.com and in select Spinneys stores from 27th September.
