Carbon Pricing

Putting a price on carbon is the most economically efficient way to reduce CO2 emissions and is an important mechanism under article 6 of the Paris Climate Agreement. The EU has the largest carbon market in the world and plans to implement a border carbon tax adjustment for goods coming into the region. The GCC region has started registering clean energy projects for carbon credits and there has been some emerging dialogue on establishing a carbon price.

The urgency to help economies recover from covid-19 may also present new opportunities to create momentum on the role of carbon pricing to accelerate the energy transition and aid economic diversification.

Jointly organised by the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network and the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (CPLC), this webinar will explore these issues for the EU and GCC regions. It will also identify possible ways to connect a GCC carbon market with the EU Emissions Trading System and other carbon pricing tools that can be deployed in either region.
